Agree, especially since the Republicans are fractured on this issue of housing finance reform - some want GSEs abolished, other want Crapo model, other want something more in line with status quo, etc.
I think that Calabria will be confirmed on party lines in the Senate, but it's less of a sure thing now, and maybe less of a sure thing that McConnell will fast track if it's going to be close. We'll see. I'm still optimistic.
If there was ever any hesitation about Calabria from Mnuchin, there seems to be an opportunity to torpedo his nomination with just a few Republican "no" votes.
But I doubt that Mnuchin doesn't want Calabria, who is he best person especially from angle of enriching investors - Calabria has argued his point of view for years.
I'm suddenly kind of nervous about this, actually. I didn't think Calabria's committee vote would be this close. All Rs voted yes and all Ds voted no.
The Rs only have a slim majority in the full Senate. It wouldn't take much to scuttle Calabria's nomination, and that would be a major setback.
