BUSTED: Trump’s lawyers accused of lying to federal investigators about hush money payments used to cover-up extramarital affairs
House Oversight Committee Chair Elijah Cummings revealed on Friday that two attorneys representing President Donald Trump lied to the Office of Government Ethics about hush money payments, Politico reports.
“It now appears that President Trump’s other attorneys — at the White House and in private practice — may have provided false information about these payments to federal officials,” Cummings wrote to White House Counsel Pat Cipollone.
The two lawyers involved are outside counsel Sheri Dillon and Stefan Passantino, who served as deputy White House counsel for compliance and ethics.
“This raises significant questions about why some of the president’s closest advisers made these false claims and the extent to which they too were acting at the direction of, or in coordination with, the president,” Cummings wrote.
