I go to ACE Hardware and tell a clerk what I'm looking for.

Pin it down to LED, don't even look for compact fluorescent or incandescent.

They always take me to the right section. Then I ask for equivalent brightness lumens and, now that I know more, color temperature.

They've done the same for a lot of confused customers so they'll know how to get you in the ballpark, and show you to your seat.

The popular colors available for LEDs are "warm white" or "soft white," and "bright white." Warm white and soft white will produce a yellow hue, close to incandescents, while bulbs labeled as bright white will produce a whiter light, closer to daylight and similar to what you see in retail stores.Mar 25, 2016
