Many things are simply untrue.

The Fort Stockton Pioneer, thinly staffed, recycled an old stock photograph coupled to a poorly written current events story.

Conflating Hurd's visit, or appointment with MMEX-scam is an unfortunate side-effect, but it lends zero credibility to MMEX-scam, a mediocre share-selling scheme.

So it is just another untruth, kind of like:
