The USFS doesn't sell anywhere near as much timber as the old days. At the end of my career, we were selling as much biomass for power generation as boards. Large old growth is basically not harvested anymore, and the mills that could handle them are gone. Of course, only cutting the little ones to thin them only works until all the little ones grow into big ones.

Aluminum studs are rare around here, as lumber is relatively cheap. My little timber acreage in idaho is probably going to get logged this summer... the prices are very high for large stumpage due to the canadian tariffs (many of which preceded trump).
