It took a long time to cause that to happen. 40 years ago, the forest service was always held up as the example of how government entities should operate and be successful. The coup de grace was when trump put in a guy who promptly put his mistress on his staff, and he got properly ousted by #metoo forces. Honor and character and integrity used to be the currency, as most managers were allowed to operate very independently and they were vetted very carefully via a good old boys system that adapted pretty well to integration. It has decayed into a group of political footballs like the BLM has been for generations. The fire folks are still relatively good, but they have regressed to rarely hiring women again and it will cost them big eventually.
