China and the global economy: much ado about something

I thought it was our intentions (USA) to get China permanent status in the WTO so that they could do exactly what it is that they are doing which is open up their doors to our corporations and have China become a global player. Keep in mind that they do not only export a ton of goods, they import a ton too. It appears to me that creating opportunities at home and exploiting the new found opportunities over their is the way to compete. There may be a time and a place for tariffs, not sure this is one of them... BWDIK
