Shares Held at DTC: Clarification of shares held at DTC. My assessment was correct that those shares are public shares or stocks held by our individual brokers on our behalf. Brokers have their own DTC acct which they update electronically. It states they are part of the float total. The float is almost locked up at this point.

Here is the email from Manhattan Transfer.

Good afternoon Pressie,

Yes, the amount held at DTC (2,149,322,938) represents the amount brokers have when they buy stocks on Landstar on the public market. Exactly, DTC then holds their own records in which each broker has their own accounts and shares are electronically moved back and forth. Then inside each broker’s account, each “street named shareholder” (or shareholders from the public market) has their own account. However, Landstar was once “not-DTC eligible” and therefore all the brokers had to hold their shares of Landstar in certificate format and would physically transfer the certificates in and out of their names. Many of these brokers are no longer active, yet still hold certificates in their brokerage name. (So they are in-between what is held at DTC and what is held by the shareholders of record). All these certificates/shares that are in the brokers’ names are represented in the “float” total that is posted on OTC.

I hope I explained this well. Let me know if you have any additional questions.
