This has been discussed from time to time. What I like about it
is the possibility of extra-clinical applications (firefighters,
smoke jumpers, infantry) where a lot of product would be deployed
but for the most part eventually discarded on expiration date.
The dates might have to be set conservatively due to necessarily
suboptimal conditions of storage for at least part of the period
deployed, so that replenishment might generate considerable
annual demand. It would be interesting to know how the shelf
life depends on the shelf environment.
