I prefer having some knowledge of topics I discuss.

Many years ago, I believed all "Japs" were bowlegged and buck-toothed ... because that's what people said ... and I thought I should believe what I was told. When I went there, I learned that the Japanese are a fine, attractive people. I learned that they loved their family, just like American people do. I learned that respect for others was so ingrained it seemed part of their nature. I learned that I was bigoted and stupid. Now, I try to avoid repeating that error.

I hear about Darfur, but I've no confidence that those making the noise actually know anything. I certainly have no idea who has what axe to grind. We have enough trouble right here at home. I have no interest in voicing uneducated guesses about circumstances of which I have no personal knowledge.
