I liked where their defense was that they acted as an agent of the central banks in implementing Fed gold policy, but they did nothing to manipulate the price of gold.

Hmmmm -- does not compute.

As for the timing, I continue to believe that there is a concerted effort by a group of gold bulls (or one huge bull??) to squeeze the commercial shorts. It is unlikely that this would be attempted unless they had the financial ability to succeed and intended to do so. That, of course, does not mean they will in fact be successful, it just means that they are not just taking a blind shot here.
