Congress could take the first step on a bill to lower drug prices today, June 13th

Congress is set to take a first step toward legislation to lower prescription drug prices today, as the Senate Judiciary Committee votes this morning on the CREATES Act. ***The bipartisan bill aims to prevent drug makers from denying their competitors access to the product samples they need to make and test new generic drugs.*** (edit: Finally!) It's just a vote in a single Senate committee, but there's growing support for the bill, which has the support of just about every big health industry group (except for branded drug makers). And federal budget scorekeepers have said the measure would save taxpayers billions. Republicans are also working on a more limited House version, aides and lobbyists tell STAT.
