OOI, ... Australia does not use primaries (in the United States sense) for the House of Representatives, or for other
elections. In fact, the term “primaries” is not used in Australia, and instead there is “preselection” of political candidates.

In the United States, primaries are run by state governments, and not by political parties. Generally,
people vote in them if they are registered with the state as supporters of the political parties.

It’s quite different in Australia. Preselection (the choice of candidates to run in elections) is carried out within political parties,
and governments have nothing to do with it. Candidates are chosen by the paid-up members of the parties, either by a
direct vote of the members living in a constituency or electorate, or by a vote of a representative committee within the party.

On the Australians do not elect the PM note, the leader of the major parties are fixed before national elections
so that Australians in voting know who their PM will be. We just don't have a direct vote for the PM, is all.
