I remember those times well and then Obama became president it went up in smoke. A bunch of wild eyed Republican/Teaparty troglodytes got in with their only agenda...
Well I'm afraid it has been going on long before Obama. It has escalated & reached the point of where it is now.

There has been an ongoing political war that has escalated since Nixon was forced from office. After the press broke the Nixon scandal, they ( the press) have continued to move toward becoming the judge of who should become or remain the president. Add social media and news pundits as the outgrowth, and Americans have settled into their armchairs to feed on ammunition to throw at their political opposites.

In other words, the majority of Americans have quit thinking and have taken up the political dogma of their television favorites. I would venture to say, most Americans care more about and put more effort into getting the closest parking space to the Walmart door, than they do to educate themselves over political issues.

A good example. When people were asked what they thought about Trump sending National Guard to border, about half said he had no right and thought it was wrong. When asked if they thought it was wrong when Bush or Obama did it, most did not even know that former presidents had, but felt they must have had a good reason (even though it was the same as reason Trump sent NG.).

And if you read back a couple of posts, someone actually gives credit to Obama for the North Korean talks that will soon be scheduled.

It took me a long time to break from tribal politics. Meaning, my mother was a staunch Democrat, no matter what. And all republicans were damn liars. LOL!! (God Bless her soul). It took Jimmy Carter to make me an independent. I loved Jimmy as a person and did not have great affection for Reagan. But, I knew a change was in order. I voted for Clinton and Obama both times they ran. But, it again became evident (at least in my own mind) it was time for change again, although I think Trump is a jerk. Really, we were not given much choice during the last election. I hope both parties can produce better in the future.

HOPE IS MOTIVATION; REALITY IS PROFIT
