ot: True, that expatriates are in a category all their own, and rarely reflect all the stay-at home people of their own nationality. I dont' care for stereotypes, but they do often contain an element of truth, which is why they persist.
It takes a certain desire for adventure and an ability to adjust and adapt to new circumstances to be a traveller and an expat. Both my parents were expats, and so I usually feel at home in that environment.
Amsterdam had been recommended as city with a cool expat community. Of course things change. Hope they haven't changed too much, and hope you are enjoying the laid back (sexy?) land of Amsterdam.
