Students on Friday walked out of their classrooms across the country in what is the latest in a series of national movements to protest gun violence in schools.
In the Washington, D.C., area, students gathered in front of the White House and are planning to walk to the Capitol later during the day, according to MNSBC.
The National School Walkout is a student-led movement held on the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School mass shooting.
According to the movement’s website, more than 2,600 official walkout events are planned nationwide. NATIONAL SCHOOL WALKOUT https://www.nationalschoolwalkout.net/
Students at the White House are planning to hold 19 minutes of silence to commemorate the 19 years since Columbine.
Friday’s walkout comes about a month after hundreds of thousands of people gathered in cities nationwide for the March for Our Lives. Students also participated in a nationwide walkout days before the March for Our Lives event, marking one month since the mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Fla.
Remnants of the March for Our Lives were present at Friday’s protest at the White House.
