I guess three things happened

Toxic lenders will stop lending because they can’t short and distort with liquidation

Market participants can’t short using IOU’s ... well they can but it’s really really expensive (instead of free) and they might end up in the same spot as Alpine.

Alpines out of Ex clearing. It’s weapon has been removed. It’s urgent need for capital may put it out of business. Corresponding brokers clearing to and contra alpine are as screwed as Alpine.

It’s a malicious systemic failure that Alpine has been carrying out for years.
