One of my friends bought a $GE washing machine. It broke down 5 times within the first year (its less than 10 months old now). They called $GE customer service who have done the parts repairs, but $GE won't replace the machine.

If that's indicative of product quality, and aftermarket customer support (I have no reason to believe otherwise), then $GE will go much lower as consumers look for substitute products. That's the marketplace at work, and its saying "failure".

$GE management is apparently blind to what's happening on the end-user level, and I suspect none of the executives are using $GE appliances so they don't know how bad their product range really is.
