Banner ads, pop-up ads, etc. don't appear to be part of your message. These appear within the message box that a poster writes. The first time I saw one I followed the link because I thought it was a link the poster, who I respected, had posted with his message for some reason. I think this procedure is deceptive, at best, and may be fraudulent, particularly since it was started without notice to the posters, and there does not appear to be an opt-out provision.
If you wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and the paper put at the end of your letter, in a way that made it look as though you had included it yourself, an ad for a product you disapproved of, wouldn't you be concerned?
Disclaimer: Whatever advertisement appears below was not selected or approved by
me, and appears under my name without my permission or authorization. The
advertiser's decision to advertise in this way IMO reflects very poorly on their integrity
and principles, and I, personally, would never do business with such a company. If you
choose to do so, you have my sympathy.
I suggest everybody who objects to advertisements which appear to be posted under their
name include a disclaimer like the one above. If you want to copy mine, feel free. Maybe if
the advertisers realize that they lose credibility with serious investors by these tactics, they will
decide to put their advertising dollars in more appropriate places.
