Was the $8M really just for the PS patents?
Freeing oneself from mental exercises involving PPHM is going to take time and with all the unanswered questions at what point does one give up and just say ”you’ve been had” and move on. So my question of late, why $8M, Bavi doesn't work. So let's just go with that thought for a moment. It has been put through every clinical trial known to man by every renown institution, cancer doctor, research scientist and let's not forget those government agencies. Now comes along Oncologie with 8M bucks to buy this worthless Bavi, but Bavi isn't just Bavi, it's also all the patents that tie it to PS. Now we all know how popular PS is, Rutgers doc already working on building his own PS mousetrap. We also know quite a few BP have PS in their studies. By owning or having been “assigned” the rights to those patents would clear the way of using PS without patent infringement. Now I don't presume to know what's in all of those UTSW/PPHM/King et al patents or how they would or could be used scientifically or enforced on the off chance that someday PS became a money making commercially viable product but it's all the things we don't no that fuels this kind of, too often, convoluted thinking. One of the things we don't know "yet", what is the name behind the money funding Oncologie, are they associated with a BP, did a BP just pick up the IP for $8M and all the patents associated with it. Some money had to be paid to keep it all legal whatever the purpose intended and end results. UTSW had to be party to the agreement with the "Asset Assignment" headline in the PR. What is UTSW getting out of this deal? Will commercialization of x + PS make them some money? Will CDMO see any of that?
Over the years I've asked, "is PS just too big for PPHM alone"? Thorpe's "Bavi" is tied up with all those PS patents, UTSW assigned them to PPHM. Did $8M just set them free and to who, for what and to what extent we have no idea?
Answers in April, who knows. Let's hope Avid is around long enough to find out. On the other hand, I'm not sure I really want to know.
