Ownership of what... 2 or 3 CDs?
Nahhh..that might be now...but not the future.
Think about the FUTURE.... remember back in 1999....we talked about how STORAGE would become the issue....and how STORAGE would no longer be "personal" in time...but a major service...
For an example of this...look at CardScan..... "they" keep your card file...."the rolodex in the sky" is how I think of it. LOL
Anyone (urban kids) who chooses can "download" or copy stuff onto portable media..(mix tapes) just as they do now.... no need to treak to a CD shop and pay premium prices for it.
Finally...to address "lack of access"..that also is a "now" vs "future" issue... with streaming media...coming in wirelessly from the puter in the sky... onto a miniscule player.....THAT will be affordable to all....and for those who can't afford it...they will get "advertising" exposure to get it "for free".
And access will be a ubiquitious as the telephone...in time....it is almost there now....
As computer needs are filled by inexpensive "handhelds" (my blackberry is amazing...PDA, phone, email, Internet, calculator, rolodex..etc..etc..) and music certainly is a major "use" of computers..... then affordability is less of an issue.
We predicted all this way back...and I know you think PHYSICAL possession is important....(the color covers, etc.) but DVDs are the perfect analogy there. As you can gain more info....(interviews, bios, etc.) in the streamed or the "subscriber" music.... then those unfulfilled but new needs surplant the old "I wanna see a picture" needs.... and they can also...download the pix...the lyrics, etc. etc.
As a side comment..... here is my opinion on ownership:
Ownership....is a bizarre concept. You do realize...that philosophically, you own nothing.
You are just passing through....when one can understand that...then the possession of "things" becomes less important.. Stuff can imprision you.....MONEY can imprision you.
