I believe it was actually a result of a massive transgression of God's Law(s) that brought it down, albeit according to prophecy and plan however.

Although we're relative babes of power in terms of time, all Nations rise and fall, as it is written historically (fell due to worldly means...ie, bad political and military choices etc.) or biblically (fell accordingly via transgression beyond acceptance...ie, I don't think explanation is needed here).
