This just in. from INQ:

Intel says Prescott to get new stepping

Plus Prescotts are 90 nano for sure

By Fuad Abazovic: Thursday 28 August 2003, 11:33

INTEL WON'T WAIT for winter to be warmed by a Prescott 103 watt core, it has emerged.
Its engineers are working on a new revision of the core and should be cooler and dissipate less than the magical 103W we've been told.

Everything is on schedule Intel said, and one fab is 90 nanometer ready as we speak.

Intel won't comment on the fact its next gen 90 nano Dothan chip won't arrive until 2004, but say this is a decision that's up to the guys in charge of the notebook unit.

It said the current Pentium M is doing just fine, and there's no delays with the microprocessor.

In fact, following our story yesterday, we have been contacted by a source who wishes to remain anonymous and he tells us the most recent roadmaps have a mistake in them, and that's why the Prescotts are not labelled as having 90 nanometer technology.

He's seen and handled both 90 nanometer processors and wafers, and Intel definitely is on track for the desktop chips. He agreed it is unusual for roadmaps with this type of mistake to get past the proofing stage and into the hands of its customers.

Intel's Prescott power consumption actually beats most of the light bulbs in your house at present. µ
