The United States is facing an absolutely devastating opioid crisis.
As of September 2017, more than 2 million Americans are dependent on prescription pain pills like opiates, according to CNN.
The number of opioid-related deaths rose 75%, from roughly 20,000 in 2010 to 35,000 in 2015. That means opioid-based drugs kill more than 100 Americans every day.

But chronic pain isn't going to magically disappear, so something will have to take opioids' place.
