The 13.4 million leaked documents also reveal how millions of pounds of the British queen’s private estate were hidden in an offshore fund based in the Cayman Islands, and how the senior adviser to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau helped funnel millions of dollars to offshore tax havens. For more, we speak with Frederik Obermaier, co-author of the Paradise Papers. He is an investigative reporter at Germany’s leading newspaper, Süddeutsche Zeitung. House Republicans planted a ticking time bomb in their tax overhaul.
The plan, they say, is built to benefit the middle class. Indeed, that’s purportedly the entire point of the exercise. “It's very clear and obvious that the whole purpose of this is a middle-class tax cut,” House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) told CNN’s Phil Mattingly in a Thursday interview.
But because some of the credits the plan extends to middle-income earners expire, some of those taxpayers will see their burden increase after five years. My colleague Heather Long lays it out:

In other words, the only surefire way to help prevent mass shootings — or any shootings — is to broadly limit access to guns in general. During the shooting in Sutherland Springs, Trump was in Japan. Last year, as many people died from gun violence in the entire country of Japan as died in the Texas shooting over the weekend (including Kelley).
Japan has strict regulations on gun ownership. Japan also doesn’t have ownership of firearms written into its constitution. Barring some broad change to how the Second Amendment is interpreted, preventing mass shootings in the United States seems difficult. Even were such a reinterpretation to happen, it’s not clear how existing firearms would be taken out of circulation.

House Republicans planted a ticking time bomb in their tax overhaul.
The plan, they say, is built to benefit the middle class. Indeed, that’s purportedly the entire point of the exercise. “It's very clear and obvious that the whole purpose of this is a middle-class tax cut,” House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) told CNN’s Phil Mattingly in a Thursday interview.

In other words, the only surefire way to help prevent mass shootings — or any shootings — is to broadly limit access to guns in general. During the shooting in Sutherland Springs, Trump was in Japan. Last year, as many people died from gun violence in the entire country of Japan as died in the Texas shooting over the weekend (including Kelley).
Japan has strict regulations on gun ownership. Japan also doesn’t have ownership of firearms written into its constitution. Barring some broad change to how the Second Amendment is interpreted, preventing mass shootings in the United States seems difficult. Even were such a reinterpretation to happen, it’s not clear how existing firearms would be taken out of circulation.
