If he was fired, he wouldn't have been on good terms with any of his counterparts. That news would be everywhere.

Also, the government operates on quarterly reviews and updates on employee status'. It is near impossible to be fired by the federal government. ESPECIALLY AS A COMPONENT HEAD.
