I don't know a lot about bonds.

But, if you want safety, you should look at short term bond funds (triple A), instead of individual corporate bonds. beyond the risk of the corporation you also have to worry about interest rates rising. If interest rates rise, the value of bonds fall. Short term bond fund would reduce your interest rate rise risk.
