the guy is serious (I am too). I emailed him again, to see what I could find out about their failures with spinning the silk large scale, apparently they can get nano scale threads but can't make longer or thicker stuff. (If it could be threaded, then it could be woven, then it could be layered and glued...then you could have something cheaper and as strong and light as carbon fiber.)
