Why were Americans in unarmed vehicles?

Why so long to find David Johnson?

Why did Trump take almost two weeks to mention the ambush publicly.

Why were the Americans so unprepared, so outgunned?

Was there a failure on U.S. intelligence?

Why wasn't US air power [or France's] more on the spot.

(On that one it's reported French planes were circling overhead while shooting
was going on but didn't fire because of danger of hitting the wrong guys.)
