Yes, a shared universe was mentioned. It's not a new idea, but it is a good one. Cross-over of characters increases the chances of more readers for each book. The actual stories don't need to cross-over.
I'm guessing that new cover art would be needed for the comics that would fall under the Absolute label. It's easier and cheaper to solicit the books with whatever covers currently exist. Maybe they will change them before going to the printers.
I think there are a couple of reasons why there hasn't been more promotion of the Absolute Comics. Benny is still unsure he will be able to publish and distribute the comics, even if ordered by retailers. Benny doesn't want it to look like it's his M.O. to promote and not follow through. Benny may not know how to promote comic books or use social media effectively (he hasn't, yet). Benny could be waiting to judge retailer interest before before putting too much time and effort into promoting something that may not sell (counter-intuitive, but who knows).
REDG always appears to lack any organized structure. I've always guessed it was due to lack of leadership skills by Benny. It could be that the board of directors just cannot work together, effectively. It would be hard for Benny to tell them to do anything, the best he can do is ask them. The board members each have their own companies to run and don't need to do Benny's work for him.
