Brief note: That is actually incorrect. Common mistake is in thinking shareholder value is synonymous with profitability. They are related, but not the same. You can actually decrease profitability and increase shareholder value. Sounds contradictory, but is not. Not going to go into the finance details, but has to do with volatility and availability of earnings, not just amount.
