Coca Cola’s bottlers are independent business men. In the old days these bottlers would get their bottles from the glass manufacturer, fill them with water , carbon dioxide and coke concentrate, then distribute them throughout their franchised areas. Then they’d collect the used bottles by paying 2 to 5 cents for their return, clean and refill them for redistribution and resale.

Today those same bottlers make their plastic bottles in-house by purchasing their PET pellets, placing them into a mold, filling the mold with compressed air and viola, a new coke bottle. This process takes seconds, costs pennies and the bottle is a throwaway!
If the bottler cares about tracking their bottles, the PET manufacturer would be involved.
If Coke care about their product in how and where it ends up, , the concentrate must be tagged.
