Mobileye seems to be in front

in terms of autonomous driving Mobileye seems to be infront when it comes to hardware.

I think you need to have a bundle "Hardware + Software" to sell this.

This is one chapter in "history repeat itself".

Google thought that they could exchange the service "autonomous driving" with the "personal data of the driver".

This went wrong. The car manufacturer didn't wanted to do this.
Only owning a software platform isn't enough.

Every car manufacturer on its own isn't able to implement autonmous driving.

Owning a hardware device and owning patents with this hardware device (Mobileye LIDAR-like-System) opens the door to sell a bundle of hardware and software.

With this piece of hardware you can sell some sort of warranty.
This was the reason why Mobileye and Tesla don't work together anymore. Tesla had some sort of warranty from Mobileye but Tesla made a complete different "user manual" for their cars.

I think the Altera acquisition and the Mobileye acquisition wer good acquisitions.

Here some news from Intel FPGA

This something interesting as well:

I think Intel bought good horses.
The pockets are deep and they have to find ways to utilize their fabs.
I mean Intel Optane (as the next example) is really impressive.
This is not a "me too"-approach.
Look at the apple AR-Kit this is quite similar to Intel Realsense-technology.
I think that we will see some further announcements around the Augmented Reality-technology ecosystem with the announcement of the Microsoft Surface phone.

Google has Project Tango & Worldsense

The Surface Phone surely has something similar.
Perhaps Microsoft HoloLens could directly deliver all its technology advantage directly to the surface phone.

And I think that there is a Windows Phone with ARM-technology and a Windows Phone with x86-technology.
