Bigworld – The local high school where I live has instituted a “no excuse” policy for homework. Unless the student has a legitimate absence, all work must be turned in on time and complete (no half filled in worksheets) or they get a zero for that assignment– period – end of discussion. They have to show effort and results. The students have been given the rules and have been clearly told that it is their responsibility – not their parents or anyone else – to get things done. It doesn’t matter if they did the work and forgot to bring it in or opted to work on next week’s assignment instead of this week’s. If a current assignment isn’t done on time it’s a forfeit – no makeup, no bonus points, no salary increase – oops I forgot this doesn’t apply to executives – they’re not expected to have the same level of accountability as even a high school student.

This is a new policy and may be a bit harsh but when these classes graduate there is no question in my mind that these kids will more likely be producers than excusers, and that will be very valuable in an increasingly competitive market place.

Anyone care to grade the cygx management team by these standards?
