I have always felt certain that BofA was pushed into acquiring Countrywide. At the time purchasing Countrywide was a really bad decision, and it was very obvious. I've always wondered what the trade off was for them to take on the Titanic when it was so obvious. Several of TBTF took over large lenders and I don't think it was because the initial investment, there was a trade off coming for doing it.
