Prudential regulator APRA has put directors of insurance companies and banks on notice that they could be in breach of their
director duties if they fail to incorporate climate change risks into their financial models and disclose the risks they face.

The insurance head at the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority, Geoff Summerhayes, said climate
change impacts had already “moved from being a ­hypothetical risk to a real risk with impact”.
