no, fact is, it's very likely every share listed as short volume yesterday is just that, short volume. Short volume is not the same as a short position that needs to be covered.

If a market maker sells 1M shares they do not have in inventory, it's listed as 1M short shares on the daily report. This is leg 1 of the transaction.

Next, the MM covers those 1M shorts, typically within minutes and they have up to 3 days. This is leg 2 of the transaction.

Now here's where it gets fun:
The daily short volume reports NEVER INCLUDE THE 2nd LEG OF THE TRANSACTION THis means the dailies will list those 1M shares as short when in fact they are not.

I and others have personally verified this with FINRA.

Any other belief is false.

Hope that helps H!

If to entertain what you are saying... still it has net short yesterday.

From the report 5.8 shorted out of 8.8 million traded. So if 5.8 was sold by MM out of 8.8 mil total, isn't it still shorted by 2.8 millions?

5.8 million sold
3 million bought to replace what sold shorted (pre-sold)
Net shorted 2.8 million?
