Obama: 'America is stronger because of the Affordable Care Act'
President Obama signs the Affordable Care Act, March 23, 2010

March 23 is the seventh anniversary of Obamacare and it’s the day House Republicans are trying to vote to repeal Obamacare and throw tens of millions of people off of health insurance.
Former President Barack Obama marked that seventh anniversary of the Affordable Care Act with a statement that doesn’t directly take aim at the vicious Republican plan, but celebrates many of the ways Obamacare is so very different from what Republicans seek to pass—and subtly calls for a continuing fight to make the American healthcare system better, not worse.
“Thanks to this law, more than twenty million Americans have gained the security and peace of mind of health insurance,” Obama says. And, he doesn’t say, if Republicans get their way, more than 20 million Americans will lose that security and peace of mind.
“Thanks to this law, the days when women could be charged more than men and Americans with pre-existing conditions could be denied coverage altogether are relics of the past,” Obama says. And Republicans want to declare open season on women’s health in more ways than just this.
“Americans who already had insurance received an upgrade as well—from free preventive care, like mammograms and vaccines, to improvements in the quality of care in hospitals that has averted nearly 100,000 deaths so far.” But that upgrade is another thing Republicans want to take away, stripping requirements that insurance plans pay for little things like preventive care, hospitalization, emergency room visits, and mental health and addiction treatment.
