Not hard to believe at all. Blue Boxes were a BIG money maker, I sold 1,000's of them...especially to GE/IBM. The opinion that they were going to stay around was very popular at that time... The vision of the PC was not yet clear.
Stating an opinion at Intel is not a problem. Stating an opinion and not having the data/argument to back it up, is. My argument was that open standards would change the industry, however, Intel was proprietary, and IBM would not release their bus timing architeture and people were reverse engineering the bus. I called on IBM to release the bus specs, but they wouldn't. I stated that Intel should release their WS specs. That was NOT a popular opinion.
