Joseph Pareti: Charlie has a long history of Intel bashing...

He has regularly predicted doom for Nvidia as well. He has a really bad track record and a verifiable bias(remember when AMD was dancing in the aisles? Yeah not so much it turned out). It's really hard to predict what Intel's process technology health will be in 2nd half 2017 for Intel much less an analyst guessing off gossip. He puts all the negative stuff behind a firewall and relies on little gems like this as analysis:

"Again for the sarcasm impaired, Intel hasn’t had an exciting consumer product for ~5 years."

The reality is that IF Intel hits its milestone roadmap that Charlie links in his doom and gloom Cannonlake is the end of the world article, it is actually doing better than 14nm. Remember that Intel only released the Core M on 14nm initially(a fairly low volume part) and both the Core M equivalent and and the 15w 10nm parts for thin and light laptops are still scheduled for 2nd half. Coffee lake is only higher end graphics at 15-28W and 35W and it brings 4 core and 6 core variants to laptops. This is kind of inline with the way Intel does the 4 core parts which usually go later(we don't have Kaby lake 4 core parts yet for example) and in fact they are adding a 6 core part if that roadmap is correct. That doesn't seem like its a terrible thing now does it? But 6 months out all this could change yet again. So none of it is written in stone so declaring that Intel is in a "deep malaise" is ridiculous. But that is about par for the course for Charlie.
