Yes, basically site-wise moderators for the purpose of cleaning up boards suddenly out of control - but they don't have IBOX powers.

These trusted assistants would more often than not being non-shareholders who are unbiased.

My temporary ban idea would help matt sort and review the situation while not giving these assistants too much power. In most cases, I envision the temporary ban would cut the heated discussion off at the knees and the 24 hour cooling-off process would take care of itself. Can even call it a "peanlty box" those who are temporarily banned who are otherwise good posters having a "moment" - much easier and gets the message across loud and clear than Matt having to PM each of them or throw them in jail and deal with that already over-crowded system with bad food.
