It is not a homogeneous problem, there is shortage of some raw materials like aluminum and other base metals, yet there is excess manufacturing capacity in the automotive sector. On the other hand, China and India are a double whamo, not only you can expect creeping rise in manufactured good (except where the margins are gargantuan, like athletic shoes you mentioned) and pressure on demand for energy and raw materials.
