I have no idea about Brown & Co, but most brokers allow you to specify what exchange your order is to be directed, even for options. I would not trade with a firm that routed all my trades to the Boston Exchange - if you are trying to get cheap commissions, you are probably more than wiping out your savings with poor executions, and executions are far more important than commissions.
