Can't speak for Sting, but personally, my impression at the time was one of optimism. I researched K. on the net and he seems to have been successful at several different endeavors. At the time I felt that a change in management was what we needed. (Still do). I don't know what happened here, but the rumors I've heard about K. working for interests not in our best interest seem to make the most sense.
While I don't share Sting's optimism, I still think the company could make it, and it sure gets old watching you guys attack him just because he continues to believe.
