CDC Confirms Active Transmission of Zika in Miami Beach
Federal and state officials on Friday confirmed a new area of active Zika virus transmission in Miami Beach. Florida Gov. Rick Scott said that five people were infected with Zika in an area of Miami Beach.
Until now, state officials had said the only area where active transmissions were occurring was in the area of the Wynwood arts district in Miami. The new zone covers most of South Beach, an area full of posh hotels, restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in an advisory that pregnant women and their partners should not travel to the designated area of Miami Beach, in addition to the agency's earlier caution regarding Wynwood.
