Nice to see when people assume someones knoweldge base.

For your info, about 4 months ago, I performed a trade study for one of my masters classes on map and navigation software for use in tracking applications (very similar to what HISS is proposing). MS MapPoint 2004 was one of the products in the trade study (so was Delmore Xmap 4.5, CoPilot PCMiler, iGuidance, and about 6 other programs)

MS MapPoint actually was the best choice in the trade study. The number one reason why is because MS MapPoint is very interoperable due to .Net / COM frameworks and open API. Most (not all) of the other solution have closed systems, and you have to hire the company to "modify" the software to the application.

Specificially, MS MapPoint's API uses Virtual Basic .Net framework in a Web environment. Anyone with experiance in Virtual Basic .Net can write a program which is "compatible" with MS MapPoint. Oh, most of Ms now uses .NET, so these people are pretty much a dime a dozen.

This is why being compatible with MS MapPoint is nothing special. If anything, it just proves that HISS has basic computing skills.

For those who do not know, virtually all MS programs are "closed" architectures. MS publishes APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) to allow non-MS applications to integrate in the MS program.
