Well if they are in true beta, then everything should be just about ready for release...that's why canceling the beta tournaments are a big deal...the beta phase is the final phase before actual release and should be taken very seriously. To nonchalantly consider a tournament cancelation on a much needed company public "opening" could be costly when it comes to spreading your name in the market.
This is a public company and as stated there must be contingencies in place for such occasions. The beta tournaments are vital to the next phase and to investors, it is unwise to simply "blow them off" as unimportant.
