There will always be unknowns.
But what doesnt exist is the unknown with the properties we are supposed to believe...
Which would be...

A fact ONLY scott knows.
That Dan can not find out.
That is essential to the company survival
That Scott will volunteer so he can lose his job.

To have that ultimate secret scott would have had to do more than drill a few holes.

Scott has done nothing to learn any secrets.
So he has nothing as leverage other than accrued salary making him a major creditor to the company.
All he needs to do is sue for what he is owed. He doesnt even need to win.
Lawyer fees alone would force the company to bankruptcy.

THAT is why scott is still here IMO.
They can do nothing without his cooperation or he will just force their hand.
Shares or no shares Scott has the legal leverage.
And he has the shares too.
