24 Iraqi children killed by suicide bomber

At least 24 children were killed in a Shia neighbourhood in Baghdad on Wednesday when a Wahabi suicide bomber attacked US soldiers distributing sweets.

Sergeant David Abrams told the AFP news agency: "Children gathered round the Americans who were handing out sweets. Suddenly a suicide car bomber drove round from a side street and blew himself up."

One US soldier is reported to have died in the attack while three others are said to have been injured.

An official in charge of the morgue at the nearby Kindi hospital said: "We have received the bodies of 24 children aged between 10 and 13."
