The audit found that the non-compliance over personal email went beyond Clinton, and that former Secretary of State Colin Powell, a Republican, also failed to preserve government-related emails when he was secretary of state.

The State Department asked Powell to try to receive relevant emails from his internet provider, but "as of May 2016 the Department has not received a response" from Powell, the audit said.

Powell should be investigated too

And what about Powell, who served as Secretary of State during President George W. Bush’s first term? Powell appeared on ABC’s This Week to answers those questions.

Apparently, Powell can’t turn over any documents. Why? Because he doesn’t have them anymore.

"I retained none of those e-mails and we are working with the State Department to see if there's anything else they want to discuss with me about those emails," he said.
